中國原種沙皮狗，我國最古老的犬種，擁有獨一無二的褶皺，毛短而硬，手感粗糙，似打磨用的砂纸，因而得名"沙皮"。頭額有輕微皺紋，在眼旁有一皺摺延伸至腮前，有如獼猴一樣。嘴部堅實，頸部皮膚鬆弛。牠們看起來很有愁善感， 帶有王者之氣，警惕，聰明，威嚴，貴族氣質，愁眉不展，鎮定而驕傲，對家人尤其主人極爲忠心，對陌生人保守。

        廣東省佛山市南海區大瀝鎮作為現代中國沙皮犬的起源地是公認的。因為大瀝鬥犬是現代中國沙皮犬血源比較近的祖先，養沙皮犬作為狩獵犬和鬥犬的傳統在大瀝已經延續了500多年，乾隆年間就出現了帶有類似沙皮犬的鬥犬圖案的陶瓷。過去，沙皮犬曾是一種優良的狩獵犬。作為鬥犬，沙皮犬在結構上很適合這種“競技”，其強有力的雙頜可以完全咬住對手，而它那粗糙的毛質卻能防止對手襲擊，因對手會發現將沙皮犬如刺一樣的被毛咬在口中非常難受，而且當從後面咬住沙皮犬時，因其厚而鬆弛的皮膚可保護深部組織不易受損，沙皮犬反而能輕而易舉地回頭撕咬對手。此外，沙皮犬的小耳朵不易被對手抓傷，其深邃的眼睛也不易受傷等，所有這些優勢使沙皮犬成為常勝將軍。

     Dali Town, Nanhai District, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, is recognized as the birthplace of modern Chinese shar-pei dogs.The tradition of Shar pei as a hunting dog and a fighting dog has lasted for more than 500 years in Dali, and there was a ceramic with a fighting dog shamanism similar to Shar Pei during the Qianlong years.
          In the past, Shar Pei was a good hunting dog. As a fighting dog, shar-pei is structurally fit for this "sport," with its powerful jaws fully able to bite its opponent, while its rough coats keep its opponents from attacking, as rivals find the "Shar Pei "biting like a bite in the mouth very uncomfortable, and when biting Shar Pei from the back, because of its thick and loose skin to protect the deep tissue is not easy to damage, Shar Pei instead can easily bite opponents. In addition, Shar Pei's small ears are not easy to be scratched by their opponents, their deep eyes are not easy to hurt, etc. All of these advantages make shar-pei dog become "長勝將軍",It means Undefeated general.
